Michelle Almeida – Hunger as an Ideology

Posted: February 15, 2012 in Uncategorized

After reading this article I automatically thought of a video I watched last year in gender theories. Some of you may have heard of Target Women, with Sarah Haskins from previous classes as she has numerous youtube videos but the one that caught my attention the most was Women know how to eat right! Sarah usues humour and sarcasim to analyize a variety of food commercials aimed at women. While some of this video goes a little off topic when being compared to this weeks readings I believe that there are many similarities between  what Susan Bordo and haskins notice in advertisements. When Sarah is discussing yogurt she touches upon the diet aspect Bordo discusses. In addition, the chocolate section mirrors what Bordo has to say about hunger and sexuality. Basically, Haskins just gives more examples of advertisements that highlight the “struggle over food” than women experience.
