Lindsay Orr- Sophia Bush and Urban Outfitters

I’m sure many of you remember seeing that sometime in September, actress Sophia Bush took a stand against the clothing store, Urban Outfitters, for their offensive and inappropriate t-shirts they were selling on their website and in stores.  Urban Outfitters was promoting eating disorders, such as anorexia, by creating t-shirts that said “Eat Less”.  In what world is this okay?  How are they even allowed to promote that?  Sophia Bush was fighting the fact that Urban Outfitters is actually turning a profit for advertising anorexia as a thing that woman should be doing.  I think it’s interesting how clothing stores, especially a popular store such as Urban Outfitters, would be allowed to promote such a thing.

You beat me to posting this! When I first saw Sophia Bush posting on twitter about the Urban Outfitters “eat less” shirts, I honestly could not believe what I was seeing. Urban Outfitters use to be one of my favourite stores and now I refuse to buy anything there. Such a perfect example to relate to what we discussed this week in class about fashion and hunger. – Alicia McCarron
