Melissa Campoli – Conspicuous consumption

Posted: November 12, 2013 in Uncategorized

Conspicuous consumption is defined as spending money on luxuries in an attempt to display economic power. I have noticed myself doing this in a sense. A couple weeks ago my roommate asked me to go to the mall with her and I went not having the intention of buying anything but of course I ended up buying a few shirts. I find myself always having to buy at least one thing when I go to a mall even if I did not go there with the intention of buying anything. When I see girls with expensive purses, shoes, and clothing I think to myself that they must come from a family who is well off, however I do own certain expensive item that might portray me as having economic power when in reality this is not the case.
