Culture jamming refers to taking popular advertisements and altering them to show the company in their true light. This is most commonly targeted towards tearing apart major corporations who portray a negative message to the passive citizen. It works to transform us into a critical audience. Culture jamming creates awareness of the challenges that are present in our consumer society.

The website known as adbusters provides many examples of culture jamming. In one example, they show a very thin and popular model known as Kate Moss with the words “Feed me” beside her. This  “spoof-advertisement” targets the fashion industry and their unrealistic portrayals of the average woman. The models are continuously becoming smaller and more unrealistic images of women are distributed constantly. Kate is known for saying, “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” I think that this advertisement is a great example of what culture jamming refers toImage
