Jessica Abdilla- Taco Bell Campaign

Posted: January 26, 2014 in Uncategorized

Taco Bell just introduced a new advertising campaign that I thought was incredibly interesting; they scout out men with the name ‘Ronald McDonald’ and asked them to comment on Taco Bell products. Promoting a light hearted commonality between men interviewed and a quirky sense of connection (it is a commercial you want to relate to), this specific advertisement is mimetic. Finding men named Ronald McDonald [associated with McDonalds] and asking them to comment on Taco Bell goods also presents a sense of distinction and comparison that marks counter-positioning. The campaign finally is self-referential because it refers to itself and acknowledges an advertisement is being made. Overall, I think Taco Bell’s McDonald campaign is creative and clever in the best of ways.
