The art in advertising- Allie Sanchez

After watching the documentary art and copy, it allowed me to see the artistic value behind advertising. Although I do still agree that the main purpose of advertising is to compel consumers to a certain product, I can now see that value behind advertising, and different advertising agencies. When you think about it, there is a lot of work, imagination and thought that goes into making an advertising. I’m not arguing that every ad is this way, but simply that there are a handful of ads out there that add more than just mindless entertainment and serve for the pure purpose of consumer culture. Another side of advertising that I was able to recognize, is that not only can they be considered art, but they can also add to different cultural societies in a positive aspect. Below is an add that I find have real moral, and cultural value:

This advertisement is clearly adding to society in a positive way, because it is countering the negativity coming from Russia about gay rights in relation to the Olympics. Sure this commercial has the purpose of attracting more people to view the Olympics, but the impacts of it are clearly for the greater good.
