Courtney Bruce- The Princess and the Frog

Posted: March 12, 2014 in Uncategorized

After reading Ann DuCille’s chapter, Toy Theory: Black Barbie and the Deep Play of Differences I immediately thought of Disney Princesses.  Barbies along with Disney Princesses seem to impact young females on how they should look and act.  Growing up as a female there always seemed to be a princess that you could relate to.  There seems to be the same idea for all of the Disney princesses however, with Disney’s Princess and the Frog was the first black princess.  However she is a Disney Princess she is seen in a different light than the other princesses.  For most of the movie Tiana, the princess is a frog which causes a lot of controversy.  Is it because of her race? Attached is a critique that I found extremely interesting on Disney’s movie, The Princess and the Frog.
