Lexie Stevens – Individual Style

Posted: March 21, 2014 in Uncategorized

Today in class we saw a clip from a video of cool hunters. What I find to be interesting is they go out and find the kids who are considered to be “cool” and ahead of the crowds. But they take this  “cool” style and turn it into a commodity that everyone has to have. They are taking the fashion choices they these kids have created them elves put their individuality into and they are going to kill it. They are taking the fashion statement and wrecking it for the kids who created them. I think what this is causing is for everyone to look the exact same.Take Laurier for example if you look a around at how the  girls are dressed you will usually see about 3 types of outfits that everyone is wearing. I’m not saying their is anything wrong with this, I am one of the girls dressed the same. I just think that it is interesting that we use a style so much that is ends up dying and we have start all over again.

I completely agree with what you are saying, I definitely was thinking the same thing after class today. It is interesting to see that there is such distinct trends that you see everyone following. Which in a lot of cases many of the things that are really popular now used to be very rare. When I think about a certain style that was rare and now is becoming more popular is the idea of the “hipster” I feel that this idea of a trend was uncommon and only a small group would consider their style to be that. But now I feel that it is more popular than not. Although people might not classify themselves as “hipsters” they are still using a part of the trend.
