While reading Adorno and Horkheimer’s writing on “The Culture Industry” I instantly thought of this ad campaign from a few years ago. Adorno and Horkheimer’s Culture Industry theory speaks of a world with people consumed by wants and needs and a mass consumer culture that can only be satisfied with the products of capitalism. Visa captures this society with their commercials that state “The world goes with Visa”. The commercial shows images of luxurious destinations, epic concerts, and most prominently, a dynamically changing world filled with people adapting and consuming.
